At the University of Texas at Austin there has been a recent increase in the number of students using social media for academic purposes. It seems that the most common use of social media is student involvement in Facebook groups. Although this seems like a great idea on the surface there are numerous issues that have begun to arise, particularly academic dishonesty between the fine line of helping others or cheating and giving out answers. We went out and interviewed professors and students to get their thoughts on how they felt about the use of Facebook groups and other forms of social media in academics.
